What you saw and/or heard was a paid promotion by a company selling VPN services. It's an advertisement.
The content creator you trust has to pay their bills somehow, right? Don't begrudge them for doing what they have to do to put food on the table.
But just because you heard it from them doesn't mean it's good advice.
